Taylor’s work explores subjectivity, emotion and nostalgia through a process-based figurative practice. Guided entirely by intuition, Taylor likes to embrace whim, irrationality and experimentation whenever possible, letting the image reveal itself slowly. Each painting session is ritualistic; an expression of moods as variable as the weather, often radically changing on the urges of passing spirits.
Intersections of introspection, melancholy, memory, passion and play lead to dream-like and ambiguous scenes. A space where reality and fantasy sleepily combine. A soft-focus gaze prone to knots and distortions.
Currently, Taylor is drawn to the lush natural life of the Mediterranean. Her latest works begin as explorations of the patterns created by agricultural land and thick wildlife. The patchwork-like mosaics of farmland create dense and claustrophobic forms that alternate between structure and chaos.
These scenes become reminiscent of the weight of thoughts, internal conflict and warring personalities. They echo the randomness of life, the regimen of work in an uncontrollable world and mankind’s constant attempt to harness reality.
